Using AXS Storage Smart Locks

Our South Haven, Michigan facility is now operating as a Smart Lock Facility where we have implemented Smart Latches and Smart Disc Locks. We are super excited to announce this partnership with Keep It Simple Storage (KISS). The smart latches are physically attached to the unit door, so you never have to worry about losing your lock. The smart disc locks are taken on and off your unit door each time you lock and unlock your unit. Both our facility managers and tenants will be notified if a door is left unlocked ensuring your unit is never compromised. These new smart locks will give you better security, make it easy to access your unit without a key, and let you manage everything from your phone using The Storage App. Learn how to use our smart locks by following the steps below or checking out our YouTube videos. For additional help, you can always call our lock support team at 412-467-0085. To use your Smart Lock, you will need to download The Storage App from your phone’s app store. There will be two ways to login to the app.
  • Using the phone number that is on file with us. You will receive a text to login.
  • Using your StorEdge login username and password.

Step-by-step Instructions

  1. Download The Storage App from your phone's App Store.
  2. Enter the customer code AXSS for the South Haven location. Enter the customer code WARR for the Warren location.
  3. Login using the phone number on file with us. Enter your number and then you will receive a code to login.
  4. You can also use your StorEdge username and password. If you do not have a StorEdge login and would like one, create a login username and password on StorEdge. Refer to the email titled “Create Your Online Account Today!” for detailed instructions. Make sure you enter your account number and unit number exactly how they appear on your billing statement. The username and password you create will be what you use to login to The Storage App.
  5. Once you are logged in, you will be able to see your unit information, pay your bill, lock and unlock your unit, share temporary unit access, and see your gate code.
  6. Once you are physically at your unit, open the app and select the unit you wish to unlock.
  7. Click the blue "open lock" button.
  8. Line up the target and hold the back of your phone flat against the lock (black circle), there will be a countdown from 5, wait for a check mark. You may hear a quiet click once it unlocks.
  9. Depending on your lock style, swing the disc lock shackle open with the handle or slide the latch over to the left. You may need to push down on the handle of the unit door while sliding the latch to the left.
  10. When ready to lock your unit, simply slide the unit latch to the right and place the disc lock back on the unit and close the shackle or simply slide the latch to the right if you have a smart latch. You may need to push down on the handle of the unit door while sliding the latch to the right to engage it.
  11. Select the unit you wish to lock and click "close lock” on the app. Repeat step 8.
  12. Confirm that the lock is engaged and locked securely.
*A Smartphone is required to use the smart disc locks or latches as they communicate with your phone via NFC technology. If you are unsure if your device is compatible, please give us a call and we will confirm with you. If you do not have a compatible device, please contact our facility to make other arrangements.

Troubleshooting:
  • Our smart locks use NFC technology to communicate with your phone. NFC technology is automatically built into Apple phones. The NFC technology may need to be turned on if you have an Android phone. If you have an Android phone, please go to settings > connections > NFC and contactless payments, then toggle the switch to turn it on.
  • If your phone is not scanning the lock, please make sure there are no credit cards on the back of your phone. This will block the NFC connection.
  • Depending on your phone case, you may need to remove your case as well to allow for a better connection.
  • Please make sure you are holding the back of your phone flat against the black or gray circle on your smart latch or disc lock.
  • On the app, please complete the KISS NFC half circle with the circle on your smart latch or disc lock. This is where the NFC is built into your phone.
